Meet Shadrack Goosen, IQ Academy Enrolments Team Leader

03 Oct 2016

IQ Academy is a Distance Learning Institution, which means that our students are located all over South Africa. We therefore don’t require students to come in to register. We have a highly effective team of Enrolment Consultants who spend time talking to prospective students on the phone. Their job is to explore the interests and goals of the potential students, and to see if we have a course or qualification to help them to achieve those goals.

Today I would like to introduce you to Shadrack Goosen, one of the Team Leaders within this Enrolments team. Shadrack joined IQ Academy in October 2010 as an Enrolment Consultant, before being promoted to an Enrolments Team Leader position. He leads and coaches a group of Enrolment Consultants, ensuring that they deliver the service that our students deserve.

How would you describe yourself Shadrack?
I have a strong character, but I am also approachable and “fun” to have around. I am energetic and self-motivated and I encourage myself through writing my own poems. I am always looking for ways to better myself, and I also motivate others to do the same.

What is your favourite music at the moment?
Gospel and anything by Luther Vandross.

What is your favourite meal?
I love spaghetti with an amazing Italian sauce.

What character trait do you most admire?
I admire originality, people who are not afraid to be themselves.

If you were President, what would you change?
I would select a new Cabinet of Ministers and would ensure that every one of them are driven to improve the lives and living conditions of our fellow South Africans, especially the youth and the elderly.

What do you do for fun?
I love spending a lot of time in the gym and cooking up a storm in the kitchen!

What is the best advice you have ever been given?
Don’t simply conform. Allow yourself to be transformed by adopting your own mind set. Don’t ever compromise your values and standards. You don’t have to look for friends, because your character will attract the right ones.

Do you have any hidden talents?
Yes, but if I tell you they will no longer be hidden... (Note from Editor: We can share that Shadrack has a gift for writing poetry)

If you were granted any wish, what would you choose?
I would love to be a motivational speaker. I would love to travel and inspire people across South Africa.

What motivates you?
To see and be part of growth in people’s lives, including their employment prospects, their financial prospects and their spiritual lives.

What are your goals and aspirations?
To have my own TV program where I am able to motivate and inspire people

Who would you most like to meet?
Barak Obama.

What drives you to achieve within your role and how do you do this?
I am passionate about our company and the academic courses that we offer. We have a manager who motivates us and who believes that we can become the best in whatever we set our minds to. She encourages us to grab every opportunity to improve our skills.

I believe in myself. I know that I can achieve any goal set for me.

I have faith in the people whom I lead and we hold motivational sessions every morning which sets the tone for the day. I am always available to treat and remedy any situation facing one of my Enrolment Consultants.

And finally, is there anything you would like to say to our students and the potential students out there?
Do not study just to get a job. Yes, getting a job is an awesome result, but study because it will help you to create change. It will help you to improve your life and it will help you to make a difference for your family and your country.
