Each department offers a range of general and/or specialized programmes and courses and the HOD of each department is responsible for the quality management of the teaching and learning that takes place within that department. The Dean or Academic Head oversees the Faculty. Despite being attached to a department, academic and support staff teach and facilitate learning across the various departmental programmes and other course offerings.

Apart from three flagship programmes, namely the higher certificates in Business Management, Human Resource Management and Marketing Management, the Faculty offers two Technical, Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes in the human resource and marketing fields. In line with the principles of continuous and life-long learning, a wide range of business short courses are also offered by Faculty to enhance employability and work readiness.

Department of Marketing Management

Welcome to our vibrant Department of Marketing Management, where we teach students to use their creative skills to build a brand that will be recognised by customers and market these brands to target markets.

Marketing in the digital era is particularly difficult because the rules have changed. A generation ago, brands mostly strove to create buzz and “drive awareness”; now they need to build compelling experiences that keep consumers engaged. However, the old tasks have not gone away. We still need to run TV ads and in-store promotions, man conference booths and hand out brochures, but now on top of that we have a whole new world of algorithms, apps and devices to master. To meet the new challenges, we need a new approach to teaching marketing to students. Therefore, we believe in giving our students a thorough grounding in the fundamentals of marketing followed by a look at the role of e-marketing. Students need to be familiar with different forms of technology available to marketers. We strive to prepare our students to enter a marketing career with the necessary knowledge and practical skills.

The Department of Marketing offers the following qualifications:

  • Higher Certificate in Marketing Management (NQF Level 5)
  • The Further Education and Training Certificate (FETC): Marketing at NQF Level 4, accredited by Services SETA

  • Study material that is relevant

Department of Financial Management

Welcome to the Department of Financial Management , where we prepare you for an exciting career in the financial and business sectors.

The human resource development strategy of South Africa (2010-2030) puts emphasis on the need for a national scarce skills list which is aligned to the country’s social and economic priority goals. When this list was publish in 2014, it did not come as a great surprise to us a department that finance and accounting skills were at the top of the national scarce skills list joined by different engineering careers . We predicted this from the low volumes of students taking up courses in these fields and the high demand in the job market for qualified and skilled people to fill these positions.

Our commitment as a department is to provide learning programmes that will assist in the transfer of finance and accounting skills to previously disadvantaged and advantaged South Africans, giving them the opportunity to enter into a very rewarding career in finance or accounting. As part of this commitment we recently applied to the Council of Higher Education to offer a Higher Certificate in Accounting. We are of the opinion that this qualification will add value by assisting in narrowing the skills gap. We are awaiting approval from the CHE.

The following business short courses are also offered:

  • Bookkeeping
  • Financial Management

We aim to empower our students through our programmes so that they are equipped with:

  • The foundation of financial and bookkeeping practises and are able to immediately make a positive impact in any business.
  • More than just knowledge but also exposure to a wide range of areas relating to their particular course.
