The bookkeeper plays a vital role in keeping track of a company’s finances, ensuring that financial records are accurately recorded on a day-to-day basis.
Some of the main tasks of a bookkeeper include checking and verifying source documents, transferring data to a general ledger, balancing of accounts and drawing up financial statements, as well as preparing and processing payroll.
Added to this, they are responsible for payments and bank deposits, assist with audits, prepare budgets and manage accounts.
The junior bookkeeper should be able to complete the same responsibilities that are undertaken by accounts clerks, creditors and debtors clerks as well as payroll clerks.
The junior bookkeeper works under the supervision of the senior bookkeeper in assisting with various tasks.
