Academic Support

IQ Academy aims to create a rich learning experience for our students and we are continuously exploring new and better ways that best support distance learning. Because of the distance mode of delivery, the Academic Support challenge is to provide support to its student population in innovative ways. Distance learning, unlike traditional face-to-face learning, can be isolating to a student and we strive to socialise our learning experiences through the use of basic and advanced technology and people.  The following are some of the initiatives:

  • Student academic development
  • Provides the necessary support to students via telephonic, e-mail as well as social media forums such as Facebook, internet-based media and mobile platforms
  • Provides interactive learning material to students which will guide them through their learning experiences
  • Regularly reviews students’ progress
  • Provides additional resources to students, i.e. access to printed and on-line library resources
  • Provides other programmes that will enable students to achieve legitimate and realistic outcomes, e.g. to improve their skills, knowledge and competencies, compete more effectively in the labour market and progress to other chosen education and training programmes
  • Adapts learning material and facilities to cater for a diverse range of students

We are committed to shorten the “distance” in distance learning. To do so, we need to keep in touch with you, the student. From our side, we use a combination of SMSs, e-mails and Internet-based and mobile technology to reach students on academic and other related matters such as student administration.

It is also important that students keep us informed about their most current personal information such as cell number, and address details, including your email address. Changing your address or SIM card may result in you not getting important information such as results or invitations to participate in discussions on important content such as assignments and exams. Students are also encouraged to participate in on-line “class room” or “chat” sessions which are being administered by our academic and support staff as these will give students an opportunity to interact with lecturers, tutors and fellow students.

Students are, therefore, actively encouraged to communicate via email as it is a great way to facilitate interaction between staff and students and as well as peers.
